‘Meth Gator’ is Like ‘Cocaine Bear’ But With More Teeth and its Free to Stream: Here’s How

Meth Gator

The breakout hit Cocaine Bear is a farcical romp that features an outlandish premise loosely inspired by actual events. The picture featured a wildly successful viral marketing campaign that took full advantage of the film’s utterly ridiculous setup. That approach translated into a successful theatrical exhibition, which returned roughly $90 million at the global box office.

Naturally, the success of Cocaine Bear caught the attention of indie distributor and production company The Asylum. As you may be aware, The Asylum is notorious for riding the coattails of successful intellectual properties. They famously released the mockbuster Transmorphers a few days before Michael Bay’s IP-based action spectacle, Transformers, to capitalize on the considerable buzz and take advantage of unsuspecting consumers.

The distributor has spoofed many successful concepts over the years, but their riff on Cocaine Bear is undoubtedly one of their most memorable offerings to date. The Asylum saw that Cocaine Bear was a massive hit in 2023 and said, “Hold my beer,” ultimately unleashing Meth Gator one year later in 2024. The film, which was initially titled Attack of the Meth Gator, unfolds after a large quantity of methamphetamine lands in a Florida swamp, only to be consumed by an alligator. Whoops.

I don’t think we need to warn you that Meth Gator is a bad movie. Director Christopher Douglas-Olen Ray didn’t set out to make fine art. However, this one might appeal to the right audience. Anyone who loves cynical, lowbrow schlock is likely to find something to appreciate about this admittedly insane effort. If you need some encouragement, we’ve compiled a selection of social media reactions for your review.

Here’s what people are saying about Meth Gator:

If you keep your expectations in check and turn off your brain, you might just have fun with this one. As you can see above, viewers with an appreciation for schlock have surely gotten their money’s worth.

If you are compelled to see if the film is as bad as it looks, you can satisfy your curiosity completely free of charge right now. That’s right, Meth Gator is currently streaming on Tubi.
