‘Bugonia’ Trailer: Bald Emma Stone, Alien Conspiracy Theories, and Plenty of Bees Abound in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kidnapping Thriller

I didn’t expect to be interrupted in the middle of my coffee break by Emma Stone with a shaved head, but here we are! And of course, Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, Poor Things) is responsible. The trailer for Bugonia has finally dropped, and it looks equal parts uncomfortable and irresistible. What more could I ask for from the director who also gave us Dogtooth?
The first glimpses of Bugonia set the tone immediately. Chappell Roan’s catchy “Good Luck, Babe!” plays over a montage of Michelle (Emma Stone) going about her routine as a “high-profile female corporate executive”—red light therapy masks, framed Time and Forbes covers, rigorous exercise. But as she pulls into her driveway one afternoon, a male voiceover warns, “All that’s lost, all that’s been done to us: we’re setting that right again.” Michelle is kidnapped and her head is shaved. Why? To keep her from contacting her mothership, of course. Her captors believe she’s an alien, and they’ll do anything they can to keep her from destroying the planet.
But the trailer reveals a bonkers twist: Michelle knows one of them.
Good luck, babe, indeed.
Here’s the full synopsis:
