$350 Million Box Office Smash Now Streaming on Paramount+, Praised by Guillermo del Toro

Horror cinema often goes overlooked and underappreciated. The genre has historically been discounted as inferior, rarely getting the level of mainstream recognition it deserves. Despite the lack of acclaim, many fans see ample merit in horror cinema. It’s not hard to see why. Filmmakers who specialize in genre fare are always finding new and inventive ways to tell compelling stories and often deliver impressive results at the box office in the process.
The Blair Witch Project, The Conjuring, and It are just a few standout examples that undoubtedly prove that the horror genre is a viable place for quality, compelling cinema with the potential to deliver a major financial windfall.

Guillermo del Toro knows what I’m talking about. In fact, a while back, he championed a film that features masterful storytelling and performed beyond all expectations at the box office. The tweet in question reads: “A Quiet Place It’s tense, scary, yes, but John Krasinski’s storytelling is also classic, elegant, completely controlled. The cinematography by Charlotte Bruus Christensen superb and the Beltrami score, spot-on.”
What is A Quiet Place about?
If they hear you, they hunt you. A family must live in silence to avoid mysterious creatures that hunt by sound. Knowing that even the slightest whisper or footstep can bring death, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and Lee (John Krasinski) are determined to find a way to protect their children while desperately searching for a way to fight back.

I think del Toro sums the film up perfectly there. A Quiet Place serves as a poignant story about the importance of family and human connection, one that will make you jump out of your seat while tugging at your heartstrings. It’s no wonder that the flick dominated at the box office, pulling in a whopping $340 million plus during its epic run. In fact, that exceptional take makes the flick the 15th highest-grossing horror film of all time.
If you are curious to see why del Toro is so taken with the film, you can currently find it streaming on Paramount+. For that matter, you can actually find the entire series on the platform at this juncture.
Well, that’s about it for this broadcast. Stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more recommendations from your favorite creators in the genre space.
