‘Dead of Winter’ Trailer Features Emma Thompson Like You’ve Never Seen Her Before
It’s about 85 degrees in my apartment, and my iced latte is melting into a puddle on my coffee table, yet I’m covered in goosebumps watching the new trailer for Dead of Winter, where Emma Thompson unwittingly comes face-to-face with a violent kidnapper in the middle of the Minnesota wilderness. There’s blood in the snow, but that could be from anything, right? There’s plenty of hunting and fishing in these parts, after all.
The new trailer for Dead of Winter drops Thompson into an icy, snowbound nightmare, where a remote cabin, a raging blizzard, and a pair of murderous strangers force her to become the hero no one saw coming.

Hit by a blizzard, a grief-stricken loner (Emma Thompson) gets lost among backroads near a Minnesota lake and stops for help at a remote cabin in the woods. Here she discovers a young woman (Laurel Marsden) kidnapped by a desperate couple (Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca) who are armed and intent on murder. Isolated and without cell service, this unlikely hero realizes she is the woman’s only hope of survival.

Brian Kirk directs the film from a script co-written by Nicholas Jacobson-Larson and Dalton Leeb. Previously, Kirk directed films like 21 Bridges and made a name for himself in TV, directing episodes of Game of Thrones, Luther, Dexter, and more.
Thompson stars in the film alongside Judy Greer, Marc Menchaca, Gaia Wise, Cuan Hosty-Blaney, Dalton Leeb, Paul Hamilton, Lloyd Hutchinson, and Brian F. O’Byrne.
Dead of Winter comes exclusively to theaters on September 26, 2025, from Vertical Entertainment.
