‘The Man in My Basement’ Trailer Sets Up Thrills Ahead of TIFF Premiere

The Man in My Basement, one of many new genre films set to premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival, dropped its official trailer today. It’s been a couple of months since Hulu released a very intriguing teaser for the film, and now we’ve got a longer look at what promises to be an intimate yet high-stakes thriller.
The Man in My Basement picks up on Charles (Corey Hawkins), a young Black man who’s having a hard time trying to hold on to his family’s beautiful ancestral home in the Northeast. His fortunes take a sudden, dramatic turn when a mysterious man (Willem Dafoe) shows up at his door one day with an offer: Let me rent your basement for 65 days, and I’ll pay you $1,000 every day.
Because Charles could really use 65 grand, he agrees. But as the man settles into the basement, things get tense. The man is clearly looking for something, and the deeper he digs into Charles’ family past, the more concerned Charles gets.

Hawkins and Dafoe star in the film alongside Anna Diop, Jonathan Ajayi, Gershwyn Eustache Jr., Pamela Nomvete, and Tamara Lawrance.
The Man in My Basement is set to premiere at TIFF in September ahead of a theatrical release on September 12 and a streaming release on Hulu later this fall.
