I love rewatching my favorite films time and again. There are a number of my faves that I’ve easily seen over 100 times. That’s one of the many reasons why I have a sizable physical media collection. I take comfort in knowing that when the urge strikes, I will have all of my familiar favorites available at my fingertips.

My Dread Central colleague Chad Collins is a thoughtful chap and a fellow physical media enthusiast who also enjoys revisiting his favorite films with a certain regularity. A few months back, Chad penned a piece celebrating one of his favorite slasher films as the “most rewatchable horror movie ever made.” As it turns out, that very picture is now available to stream on HBO Max!

The film in question is none other than Wes Craven’s iconic slasher masterpiece Scream. The setup for this celebrated effort goes like this:

A fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Director Wes Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts, but the victims aren’t always the ones you’d expect.

In his previously mentioned coverage, Chad lovingly spoke to his reverence for the Scream series, saying: “I love the entire franchise, including Radio Silence’s rebooted sequels, but that original trilogy remains unmatched. So much so, in fact, I’m convinced Scream might be the most rewatchable horror movie of all time.”

Scream

I have to hand it to Chad that Scream is infinitely rewatchable. I’ve seen it dozens of times, and it never gets old. The pacing is pitch-perfect, and the way the film simultaneously pays tribute to the slasher genre while good-naturedly poking fun at it set the template for what meta horror would look like going into the new millennium and beyond. Not to mention, Scream paved the way for what most of us see as one of the most consistently effective horror franchises in recent memory.

Now that you know that Scream is available to stream on HBO Max, perhaps this is as good a time as any to pay a return visit to the most infinitely rewatchable horror film ever committed to celluloid.

That’s all that we have for you at present. Make sure to stay tuned to the site in the immediate future for more exciting updates. Until then, you can always find me on Threads. I am active on the platform as @FunWithHorror.
