This Netflix Original Horror Movie Has the Best Twist Ending They’ve Ever Made: “The last 20 minutes are insanity”

Eli

Horror audiences love a good twist. Whether the twist saves or sinks its respective film, a solid twist ending is enough to ensure the movie remains popular in the zeitgeist. We’re all still talking about The Sixth Sense, and last weekend’s 28 Years Later is probably going to remain one of the most polarizing films of the entire decade, largely because of that ending. In a filmic marketplace as crowded as the current one, filmmakers and distributors need that beguiling twist to draw viewers in, especially on streaming platforms.

Streaming platforms, after all, are designed for one-and-done looks. Stream the movie, maybe text a tad during it, and then immediately forget about it as soon as the next shiny thing comes along. Some movies defy the odds, however, and Ciarán Foy’s smash Netflix hit is no exception. It has arguably the best twist ending of any horror movie on the platform, and now you can check it out for yourself. Learn more about Foy’s Eli below:

Per Netflix: With his desperate parents in tow, an 11-year-old boy with a debilitating illness checks into an isolated clinic to undergo experimental therapy.

Ciarán Foy, known for Citadel (great) and Sinister 2 (underappreciated), lends a certain gothic gravitas to Eli’s proceedings. Ostensibly, it’s all very familiar. You’ve got the remote manor, the doctors who are up to no good, and weird, possibly dead girls appearing to Eli (Charlie Shotwell) and Eli alone. That familiarity is a strength, however, because once Eli reveals where it’s going, you’ll feel duped for thinking it was one thing when it’s really been another.

So much so, Eli is undoubtedly one of the most successful Netflix horror releases of all time. Anecdotally, I still hear people talking about the film, especially once I share that I’m a horror writer. It’s all, “Have you seen Eli?” and “You’ve got to watch Eli.” I’ve seen it, okay? The supernatural shocker is a breath of fresh air in a crowded horror streaming environment, and if you’re in need of something to really get your heart racing, Eli is as perfect a choice as any.
