The Most Terrifying Modern Vampire Horror Movie of all Time Is Now Free-to-Stream

There’s something undeniably terrifying about vampire cinema when it’s done right. The undead make for notoriously effective screen adversaries when packaged correctly. 30 Days of Night undoubtedly excels in its depiction of vampires, the creatures within are menacing, blood-thirsty, and unhinged. Not to mention, the brilliant makeup effects ensure the vamps look properly imposing at all times.
In addition to the way the film nails the visual depiction of vampires, it also plays around with lore, making the undead more primitive and far more imposing than what we see in many popular screen renderings. Few will find these vamps sexy, that’s for sure.
If you’re game to experience the flick’s unforgettable take on the undead, you can currently do so free of charge via Xumo Play.
The Nuts and Bolts of It All:
For anyone unfamiliar with the property, the film is based on a comic book miniseries of the same name by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith. Niles was on board to co-write the screenplay for the film, in addition to his work on the comic. He takes a screenwriting credit alongside Stuart Beattie (Collateral) and Brian Nelson (Hard Candy).
David Slade helmed 30 Days of Night for Sony. You may remember that he also recently directed the harrowing horror thriller Dark Harvest. If you haven’t had the occasion to take that one in, it’s a real treat, particularly for Halloween season viewing.
As for the onscreen talent, Josh Hartnett, Melissa George, Danny Huston, Ben Foster, and Mark Boone Junior comprise the core cast. There are several familiar faces featured within and each turns in an arresting performance.
Here is the setup for this chilling tale of sub-zero vampirism: In the far Northern Hemisphere, the small town of Barrow, Alaska, experiences a solid month of darkness every year. Though most of the residents head south for the winter, some townspeople remain behind. However, those who stay regret their decision when hungry vampires descend on Barrow to feed. Sheriff Eben (Josh Hartnett), his wife (Melissa George), and a dwindling band of survivors must try to last until dawn breaks over Barrow’s monthlong twilight.
