‘Abraham’s Boys’: Shudder Unveils Trailer for Joe Hill’s Chilling Van Helsing Story

Shudder has unveiled the official trailer for Abraham’s Boys, a new horror film based on the excellent short story by Joe Hill, one of my favorite horror authors. Set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, this one promises to offer a bold new take on the Dracula mythos through the eyes of Van Helsing’s traumatized children. Should be wild.

Directed by Dread alumni Natasha Kermani (LuckyImitation Girl), Abraham’s Boys stars Titus Welliver as Abraham Van Helsing, a man haunted by his past encounters with the Prince of Darkness. The cast also features horror icon Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil), Aurora Perrineau (Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare), Judah Mackey (The Morning Show), and Brady Hepner (The Black Phone).

The story here is focused on Max and Rudy Van Helsing, two brothers raised in isolation under the paranoid and authoritarian eye of their father. Unaware of the monstrous history Abraham is trying to keep buried, the boys slowly begin to uncover the brutal truth about their family’s dark legacy .. and the bloodthirsty figure at the heart of it.

The brand new trailer below teases a slow-burning, psychological horror tale, packed with gothic atmosphere and moments of brutal intensity. Kermani’s signature blend of stylized visuals and character-driven tension looks to be on full display here. Seems like we may get a moody, emotional reimagining of classic vampire folklore. A winning combo if you ask me.

With its blend of generational trauma, supernatural dread, and Joe Hill’s unparalleled horror pedigree, Abraham’s Boys is shaping up to be one of my most anticipated genre releases of 2025. It also marks a theatrical event for Shudder, who will release the film exclusively in theaters before its streaming debut later this year.
