‘The Institute’ Trailer: New Stephen King Adaptation Coming To MGM+

It’s quite a year for Stephen King adaptations, from the heart-shattering The Life of Chuck to the upcoming Welcome to Derry series. Now, we’ve got our first trailer for the upcoming MGM+ series, The Institute, an adaptation of Stephen King’s novel of the same name. Plus, King is officially an executive producer on the series alongside Jack Bender, who’s responsible for Dread Central favorite, From!

The Institute follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis, who is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.

Stephen King’s The Institute was released in 2019 to generally positive reviews. On the day of its release, it was also announced that Spyglass Television had bought the rights for a series adaptation to be led by Bender. Now, five years later, the eight-episode series is finally coming to streaming.
Bender also directs the series from a teleplay by Benjamin Cavell. King and Bender executive produce alongside Cavell, Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, and Ed Redlich.
The Institute premieres on MGM+ on July 13, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT.
