Stephen King Praises Unsung Streaming Horror Series: “Scary? Yes. Involving? Yes.”

NOS4A2

Finding a new streaming obsession is a lot of work. There’s the endless scrolling, followed by the inevitable questioning if you made the right choice once you finally pick something. We can relate all too well. While there are no guarantees in life, we have a recommendation that may help alleviate all of that guesswork and indecision. This particular recommendation comes from Stephen King, a man who knows a thing or two about storytelling. What’s more, this pick is based on a book written by Joe Hill, King’s son. Sure, some might be tempted to cry nepotism. But King is far from the only fan of today’s pick, which just so happens to be the AMC series NOS4A2. You can see his rave critique (which is sourced from one of the author’s Tweets) directly below!

NOS4A2: Scary? Yes. Involving? Yes. But it’s also doing something network TV can’t or won’t do–showing working-class people doing their jobs and trying their damndest (sometimes failing) to be decent. The best horror stories are firmly wedded to real life.”

As we mentioned, King isn’t the only fan of the series. The program has a respectable Rotten Tomatoes critical approval rating of 72%. What’s more, viewers are even more enamored with the program than critics. The series’ user rating on the site sits at an impressive 82%.

If those winning statistics make you eager to experience NOS4A2, you have several options for doing exactly that. The program is currently available for AMC+ subscribers to stream. You also have a couple of options that do not require a subscription. You can additionally scope the program via Plex or Xumo Play. Hooray!

NOS4A2 follows Vic McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings), a gifted young woman who discovers she has a supernatural ability to find lost things. This ability puts her on a collision course with the evil and immortal Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto). Manx is a supernatural villain who feeds off the souls of children and then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland — a twisted place of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas Day and unhappiness is against the law. Vic strives to defeat Manx and rescue his victims — without losing her mind or falling victim to him.

In addition to Cummings and Quinto, the program also stars Jahkara J. Smith, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Virginia Kull, and Ashley Romans.

Jami O’Brien adapted Hill’s novel for the small screen. The program ran for a total of two seasons on AMC.

There you have it, Stephen King (and the majority of critics and viewers) are taken with NOS4A2. And if you endeavor to check it out for yourself, you may be equally taken. Make your way over to either AMC+, Xumo Play, or Plex to make up your own mind.
