David Koechner To Star In New ‘Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes’ Sequel

Hide your ketchup packets. Production has officially begun on Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence, the long-awaited fifth installment in the iconic cult horror-comedy franchise that first sprouted in 1978—and refuses to die.
Directed by David Ferino, the new film delivers a genetically modified showdown between the chaotic forces of nature and modern artificial intelligence, centered on a rogue biotech CEO, an experimental AI called “MyTomato,” and the slimy uprising that follows.
The cast features a stacked lineup of comedy stars, cult icons, and genre veterans, including David Koechner (Anchorman), Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Daniel Roebuck (The Munsters), Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier), Paul Bates (Coming To America), Vernee Watson (The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air), and Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway Train).
Also appearing is John Astin, beloved by generations as Gomez in the original Addams Family series, reprising his fan-favorite role as mad scientist Professor Gangreen—a character he portrayed in earlier Killer Tomatoes films and the 1990s animated series. Samantha Bailey as Kate Patel, CEO of VegIntel and creator of “MyTomato,” and Zachary Roozen as Chad, a role originally portrayed opposite George Clooney in Return of the Killer Tomatoes (1988).
Created by Costa Dillion, Steven Peace, and John DeBello, the Killer Tomatoes franchise began as a low-budget spoof and exploded into a multi-generational cult sensation. It spawned sequels, an animated series on FOX, and helped launch Clooney’s early career. The late cult movie icon, Roger Corman, and his company, New World Pictures, previously distributed Return of the Killer Tomatoes! in 1988.
“We’re leaning into everything that made Killer Tomatoes a phenomenon, but updating it for today’s absurd world,” said Dillion. “This time, they’re not just back. They’re organically intelligent.”
The film is being distributed by Anchor Bay Entertainment, signaling a bold new chapter as the studio returns to its cult and genre roots. Hot off the buzz from Abruptio—the innovative, critically acclaimed all-puppet horror filmAttack Of The Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence continues Anchor Bay’s mission to back bold, irreverent storytelling with bite.
“We’re proud to be bringing back a franchise with this much cultural DNA,” said Thomas Zambeck, CEO of Anchor Bay. “Organic Intelligence is fresh, funny, weird, and self-aware—just the kind of beautifully chaotic project that fits our mission. The Killer Tomatoes are ripe for reinvention.”
Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles, Long Beach, and San Diego.
