Stephen King Calls This Netflix Horror Series “Smart, involving, and bloody terrific”

Netflix Stephen King

If you happen to be between binges at the moment, we have a spot of excellent news for you. Netflix currently has a critically acclaimed horror-infused miniseries available to stream, what’s more, celebrated author Stephen King counts himself a fan!

A couple of years back, the prolific scribe took to the social media platform previously known as Twitter to share his thoughts on the property in question. More specifically, the property in question is a BBC/Netflix miniseries that features an update on the classic Dracula tale.

King’s tweet reads:

“The BBC incarnation of Dracula (Netflix) is smart, involving, and bloody terrific. Which is to say it’s terrific and VERY bloody.”

Now that’s an endorsement. If you still require further convincing, perhaps scoping the trailer in the player below will assist you in your quest to make an informed decision.

The setup for this three-episode miniseries on Netflix goes as follows: Jonathan Harker travels to Transylvania to meet a new client and finalize the sale of a stately house in London, but finds himself trapped in a terrifying maze-like castle of undead brides with a vampire Count whose ambition is to conquer the world.

This retelling of the classic tale takes a number of creative liberties with the source material, something for which the series took a certain amount of flak. To that, I say, “How many faithful adaptations of the Dracula story do you need?” Sure, it may be jarring to see the classic story retold with certain elements altered, but such a setup allows the creative team (specifically co-writers Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat) to flex their creative muscles and deliver a viewing experience that is equal parts familiar and different.

Claes Bang, Dolly Wells, John Heffernan, Morfydd Clark, and Joanna Scanlan topline the program. Jonny Campbell, Damon Thomas, and Paul McGuigan each direct one episode of the three-part series.

There you have it, the Netflix/BBC miniseries Dracula is available to stream now, and it even counts Stephen King as a fan. Seeing as the platform has been removing original content that most of us assumed would be around forever, now may be a good time to scope this 2020 effort.

Stay tuned to the site in the very near future for more exciting streaming recommendations as we successfully unearth them. In the meantime, if you are keen on more of my musings, you can always find me over on Threads as @FunWithHorror.
