‘It: Welcome to Derry’ Trailer Shares First Look at Bill Skarsgård’s Small-Screen Pennywise

No one would blame you if you were beginning to feel fatigued by all of the attempts to cash in on existing IPs. There’s seemingly always a novel, film, series, or various other property getting the reboot, remake, prequel, sequel, requel, or spinoff treatment. Speaking of which, the brand-new trailer for It: Welcome to Derry just dropped. While you may be skeptical of this upcoming prequel series, this particular offshoot might be special. That much is apparent from the newly released trailer.
As some fans already know, this prequel series marks the return of It (2017) and It Chapter II (2019) director Andy Muschietti, as well as his sister and producing partner, Barbara Muschietti.
Welcome to Derry Will Feature the Return of Bill Skarsgård as Pennywise!
The Muschietti siblings are not the only returners, of course. Not by a long shot. Bill Skarsgård, who famously played Pennywise in Andy’s aforementioned adaptations, will also be back. You can catch a very brief glimpse of him as the sinister clown at the tail end of the trailer.
Although Andy returns as one of the developers of the series and takes an executive producer credit, he will not be taking on showrunner duties, nor will Barbara. Instead, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will work as co-showrunners on this small-screen prequel.
Andy previously revealed that the series is based on the interlude chapters in the Stephen King novel, It. He explained that the team is targeting a total of three seasons that will play out in three different timelines: 1962, 1935, and 1908. The show will explore each of the respective time periods, giving viewers a glimpse into Pennywise’s handiwork in each era.
If the trailer is any indication of what’s in store, it’s safe to say that the upcoming first season will be set in the 1962 timeline. Speaking of the trailer, it captures a similar energy to the films and has a distinctly King-esque vibe. Fans who dig 2017’s It, which is really the distilled essence of the author, may just find themselves similarly taken with this upcoming effort.
Before long, you’ll be able to make up your own mind about how you feel about Welcome to Derry. The prequel series is expected to debut on Max HBO Max this fall.
Plot Crunch Per IMDb:
This series will follow events unfolding in the 1960s, the time leading up to the events of the first film in the Stephen King It series.

Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Bill Skarsgård are all confirmed cast members at this juncture.
