This Netflix Horror Series is so Scary Even Stephen King Warns it’s Only For “Sickos”

Netflix

Iconic author Stephen King is rather prone to taking to social media to champion noteworthy efforts from other creators that he happens upon in the wild. The bestselling author has even praised several efforts based on his own work over the years. Today, we have a recommendation to share that bridges that gap. This recommendation, which is pulled from one of the author’s tweets, is a Netflix series that the beloved author compares to his own output as well as to another beloved Netflix original series. See what we mean below.

“If you’re one of those sickos–like me–who enjoys being scared, Marianne (Netflix) will do the job. There are glints of humor that give it a Stranger Things vibe. It also has (I say it with all due modesty) a Stephen King vibe.”

-Stephen King

You had us at Stranger Things. With the added distinction that Marianne has a King-esque quality to it, we’re now even more stoked on this one! If King’s endorsement has enticed you to check out the series, make your way over to Netflix and give it a shot!

In the Netflix series:

The story tells of powerful witchcraft in the countryside of France, starting with a woman hanging herself in front of her childhood friend, Emma. Afterwards, Emma returns to her village seeking answers about her friend’s death.

If you’re still on the fence, allow us to sweeten the deal. The series holds the honorable distinction of sitting at a bulletproof critical approval rating of 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes! Moreover, the PopcornMeter is a similarly favorable 84%, which makes this a program well-liked by both fans and critics!

Marianne is a French series created by Samuel Bodin. In addition to directing all eight episodes, Bodin co-wrote the teleplay for each series installment with Quoc Dang Tran.

Victoire Du Bois, Lucie Boujenah, Tiphaine Daviot, and Mireille Herbstmeyer topline the show.

There it is, dear reader, Stephen King digs the French-language horror series Marianne on Netflix, and you might, too! If you’re up for a new binge, make your way over there and give it a whirl.
