‘The Sound’ Trailer Teases Terrifying Rock-Climbing Horror

For this writer, rock climbing is already a terrifying concept. My terrible hand-eye coordination, paired with my fear of falling, makes that particular outdoor activity a living nightmare. So imagine how my anxiety spiked when I watched the trailer for Brendan Devane’s new film, The Sound. Written, directed, and produced by Devane, this new horror thriller definitely isn’t for those afraid of heights…
In the new film:
A world-class group of climbers is granted access to the Forbidden Wall, a mysterious rock wall previously closed for decades. Among the climbers is Sean (Marc Hills), whose grandfather made an ill-fated attempt 63 years earlier. During the group’s ascent, they come face to face with a malevolent force that quickly turns their expedition into a harrowing battle for survival hundreds of feet above the ground.
Watch the new teaser trailer:
Marc Hills (Elephant Department), Rachel Finninger (American Horror Story), Nicholas Baroudi (The Hating Game), Jocelyn Hudon (The Strain), William Fichtner (Crash), Christina Kirkman (Trigger Happy), Jolene Kay (Star Trek), David Clennon (The Thing), and professional climber Hazel Findlay star in the new film. Climbing legends Alex Honnold (as seen in Free Solo), Brette Harrington (The Alpinist), and Adrian Ballinger (Edge of the Earth) also appear in The Sound.
That’s right, Devane has cast several professional climbers in The Sound. It’ll be interesting to see how the professional climbers play a part in the new horror thriller. As if climbing a steep rock face wasn’t terrifying enough.
James Iha, founding member of The Smashing Pumpkins, composes the film’s score.
The Sound comes to theaters and VOD on June 27, 2025, from Blue Harbor Entertainment.
