Guillermo del Toro Praises Overlooked and Free to Watch Quentin Tarantino Movie as “One of my favorites”

Quentin Tarantino

It’s quite the occasion when we get to spotlight one Oscar-winning filmmaker championing the work of another. And that’s precisely what we have in store for you here today. That’s right, we’ve got three-time Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro professing his adoration for a film written and directed by two-time Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino. Exciting stuff indeed.

Jackie Brown

Auteur creator del Toro is never shy about sharing his take on the movie scene. As he often used to do before fleeing the platform, the Crimson Peak director took to Twitter (X) to share his appreciation for a Tarantino picture that quite frankly deserves more love. “Film: Jackie Brown by Quentin Tarantino,” del Toro’s post begins. “QT is a brilliant director and this is one of my favorites- and one of his most humanistic.”

Jackie Brown is streaming on Plex!

If del Toro’s fondness for the flick has you nostalgic for a repeat visit, you can stream the film on Plex as of writing.

Pam Grier takes top billing on this thoughtful nod to the exploitation output of the 1970s, while Robert Forster, Samuel L. Jackson, Bridget Fonda, Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton, and Michael Bowen round out the balance of the cast.

In addition to directing, Tarantino takes the primary writing credit here. The Pulp Fiction director adapted the narrative from the Elmore Leonard novel Rum Punch. Tarantino made the film for an estimated $12 million, and the flick pulled in $74.7 million at the global box office.

What is Jackie Brown about?

Per Google Movies: When flight attendant Jackie Brown (Grier) is busted smuggling money for her arms dealer boss, Ordell Robbie (Jackson), agent Ray Nicolette (Keaton) and detective Mark Dargus (Bowen) want her help to bring down Robbie. Facing jail time for her silence or death for her cooperation, Brown decides instead to double-cross both parties and make off with the smuggled money. Meanwhile, she enlists the help of bondsman Max Cherry (Forster), a man who loves her.

That about wraps it up, dear reader. Now you know that celebrated director del Toro is an unapologetic fan of Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, and you can stream the film on Plex.
