The #1 Most-Watched Movie on Netflix Today Is an Action-Packed Highly Violent Thriller

Netflix debuted the new action thriller Havoc last Friday. And the film has already established itself as the most-watched title on the platform in the days since. Judging from the marketing materials, Havoc looks like a gritty actioner that throws back to the exploitation output of yesteryear. Critics are already drawing comparisons to early John Woo, with many praising the fight choreography and dynamic action sequences.
Havoc writer/director Gareth Evans came onto our collective radar with the scrappy action picture The Raid: Redemption and from there he went on to write and co-direct the V/H/S/2 segment ‘Safe Haven.’

Evans is quickly making a name for himself in the genre space. On many of his projects, he takes a producing credit, a writing credit, and a directing credit. Having a role in multiple steps of the filmmaking process is a good way to maintain a higher level of creative control. Perhaps that’s why his films seem to be resonating. In addition to dominating Netflix’s charts, Havoc has also been a moderate success with critics. The picture currently holds a 63% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Perhaps even more impressively, Evans’ 2011 effort The Raid: Redemption is certified fresh with an overall rating of 87%. With a track record like that, Evans may well have a bright future ahead of him.
This is the setup for the Netflix original feature Havoc:
After a drug deal goes wrong, a bruised detective must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.
Evans has assembled an impressive cast of characters for his latest offering. The roster is full of familiar faces. Tom Hardy stars alongside Jessie Mei Li, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Yeo Yann Yann, Luis Guzmán, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker.
If you think Havoc might be your idea of a good time, head over to Netflix to see what you think. The picture is a Netflix original, so it should be around for the foreseeable future.
Well, there it is, Havoc is captivating Netflix subscribers and even narrowly winning over critics.
