New Stoner-Surveillance Horror Film Debuts As Endless Loop Online

Filmmakers Anna Maguire and Kyle Greenberg have announced their short film Hi! You Are Currently Being Recorded is now available to watch exclusively online at hiyouarecurrentlybeingrecorded.com. The stoner-surveillance thriller stars Anna Maguire (Violation) as ‘Anna’, who, while on a trip to Los Angeles to visit a new flame, finds herself lost, stoned, and alone… Or is she?
Building on the loneliness, absurdity, and the very real anxiety of a city terrified of anyone who might be venturing forth on foot, the low-fi ‘hybrid’ short bridges fact and fiction by presenting a woman plagued with paranoia in a security camera-ridden neighborhood of Los Angeles.
Maguire and Greenberg told Dread Central,
“Hi! You Are Currently Being Recorded reconstructs a walk where we were stoned and accosted by these disembodied watchers, which felt dystopian, disturbing, and a little disheartening. Being high made it all the more destabilising, and we were determined to make something that reflected our experience. It’s easily something to disregard—after all, it’s not that deep! But, as any good stoner knows, a key is sometimes needed in order to unlock the door to perception, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it!”
The online release, powered by Stupid Co and Assemble, follows a yearlong festival campaign that included Fantasia, SXSW Sydney, The Downtown Festival, Kyiv International Short Film Festival, NOAM, Santa Fe International Film Festival, Chattanooga, and ScreamFest.
Maguire and Greenberg make up the British-Canadian-American filmmaking duo also known as STUPID CO. They’ve recently launched the dog-friendly screening series and zine CANNES DOGS in addition to the one-day underground Vancouver festival, OFF-VIFF. The duo launched STUPID CO in 2024 not only to make a really cool hat, but to build a home for their own artistic work. Their latest short film French Lessons kicked off a festival tour in March at the Americana Film Festival in Barcelona and played at the Miami Film Festival earlier this April.
