Did You Know These Characters from Two Different Tarantino Films are Related?

Quentin Tarantino is not a fan of the current crop of comic book films dominating your local multiplex. I can’t say that I blame him for that. However, the filmmaker‘s disdain for Marvel movies does not mean that he has anything against a cinematic universe. As it turns out, the Kill Bill director frequently features Easter eggs and connective tissue that conjoin different offerings from his cinematic oeuvre. One of the many examples, and perhaps the most obvious of the bunch, is the Vega brothers.
Here is the lowdown on how a pair of outlaw brothers connect two different Tarantino pictures.
Vic and Vincent Vega are brothers. Vincent Vega appears in Pulp Fiction (famously played by John Travolta). He is brother to Vic Vega (Michael Madsen) who features in Reservoir Dogs. If the name doesn’t sound immediately familiar, Vic is better known as Mr. Blonde, the dancing psychopath who van Gogh-ed poor Marvin’s ear.

Tarantino reportedly cast Travolta when Michael Madsen backed out of Pulp Fiction. The writer/director then tweaked the screenplay accordingly.
The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood director had designs on shooting a film featuring both Vic and Vincent. The property would have been a prequel to Pulp Fiction, however, the filmmaker never got past the idea stage with the project.
It’s a bummer that the proposed prequel never panned out. However, I think Tarantino has made smart choices. He’s never gone all in on a project he wasn’t sure about. And that’s probably why he has one of the most impressive track records of any of his contemporaries.
Tarantino’s debut feature Reservoir Dogs plays out as follows:
Six criminals with pseudonyms, each a stranger to the other, are hired to carry out a robbery. The heist is ambushed by police and the gang is forced to shoot their way out.
The setup for Pulp Fiction is this:
Vincent Vega (Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is interwoven with those of several other characters.
That is absolutely everything that we have for you at present, dear reader. Be sure to stay tuned to Dread Central in the near future for more exciting updates on projects that might have been.
