This ‘Certified Fresh’ Clint Eastwood Thriller Is Now Streaming for Free, But Not For Long
While we may not ever see eye to eye on politics, I am a big fan of Clint Eastwood as an actor (and director). He plays tough guy roles very well. He brings an impressive level of nuance to stoic characters that emote primarily through body language and facial expressions. Frank Horrigan, his character in Wolfgang Petersen’s In the Line of Fire, is a great example of exactly that. Eastwood brings a dogged determination to the character and gives the viewer every reason to invest in his plight.
The entire In the Line of Fire cast is dynamite.
Eastwood’s performance isn’t the only standout in the film. Costar John Malkovich scored a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his turn as Mitch Leary. Malkovich features as a disillusioned assassin planning to kill a sitting president. Leary is smartly written by Jeff Maguire. And Malkovich brings him to life with a level of detachment that makes him all the more terrifying.
Not to mention, Dylan McDermott and Renee Russo are also great in their respective supporting roles. Truly, there isn’t a bad performance amongst the core cast of characters.
Director Wolfgang Petersen compliments strong showings from a talented stable of thespians with keen direction. The action sequences are breathtaking. And the final showdown is so harrowing that I typically find myself gripping the armrest and gritting my teeth until it’s over.
If you haven’t yet seen this impressive picture, I suggest you rectify that at your earliest convenience. Whenever you’re ready to do so, you can scope In the Line of Fire for free (with ads) on Xumo.
The setup for this thrilling Clint Eastwood thriller goes like this:
A Secret Service agent is taunted by calls from a would-be killer who has detailed information about the agent – including the fact that he failed to save President John F. Kennedy from assassination. The caller is revealed as an ex-CIA assassin, and the agent, who is investigating a threat to the current president, is determined not to let history repeat itself.
