‘What You Wish For’ Exclusive Clip: A Meal To Die For
Culinary horror is a personal favorite subgenre, a deliciously disgusting place for filmmakers to play with their food. Writer/director Nicholas Tomnay does just that in his new film What You Wish For where a skeezy chef enters a world much different from his own and must cook for his life.
In the film:
Ryan (Nick Stahl) is a talented, down-on-his-luck chef with crushing gambling problems. Circumstances being what they are, he leaves town in a hurry for the safe haven of an unnamed Latin American country where his friend Jack (Brian Groh), a more prestigious chef with his own unique troubles, welcomes him into his home. Ryan has no idea how Jack’s able to afford his extravagant lifestyle cooking for the elite in paradise; he doesn’t want to feel envious, yet he can’t help but want this life for himself as well. Soon, a grim twist of fate will give that to him. Ryan assumes his friend’s identity and soon discovers just what Jack’s been doing to maintain the lifestyle he so desperately craved.
In our exclusive clip, Ryan plans a meal to die for, including a special tongue sashimi.

What You Wish For marks Tomnay’s first film since The Perfect Host, which was released in 2010. Tomnay has a particular eye for stylized horror and his newest film is no different. Plus it features two incredible performances by Nick Stahl and Tamsin Topolski.
In our review of the film, Dread Central’s Mary Beth McAndrews wrote,
While certain beats of What You Wish For may feel familiar, Tomnay is never afraid to go even darker to the point of the absurd, which sets this apart from recent culinary horror films like The Menu and Fresh. It’s simply delicious.
Stahl and Topolski star in the film with Randy Vasquez, Penelope Mitchell, Juan Carlos Messier, and Brian Groh.
What You Wish For is now on Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand from Magnet.
