Denzel Washington’s Scariest Thriller with a “Perfect ending” is Finally Free to Watch
Denzel Washington may just be the king of the action thriller. From the Equalizer series to Training Day, Washington knows how to command the screen, especially in a high-pressure scenario. Now, one of his most underrated films, and his scariest, is streaming for free now on Tubi. And that is the serial killer film Fallen, released in 1998.
Some fans say this frightening thriller is elevated due to a particularly excellent ending. See what Twitter is talking about below.
The film’s synopsis, per Tubi, is as follows:
With a demonic serial killer behind bars, a detective and his partner must find out who is behind the gruesome murders that continue in his wake.
This 1998 film was directed by Gregory Hoblit, who went on to direct films such as Fracture and Hart’s Fear. Nicholas Kazan wrote the script. Washington stars in the film with John Goodman, Elias Koteas, James Gandolfini, Embeth Davidtz, and Donald Sutherland.
When it was released in 1998, Fallen was received rather poorly by critics. Roger Ebert wrote in his 1998 review, “The idea is better than the execution, and by the end, the surprises become too mechanical and inevitable.” The box office results weren’t great either, with the film only making $25.2 million against a budget of $46 million.
But, time has been kind to Fallen. In a piece for The Hollywood Reporter comparing Loki to the 90s thriller, Ryan Parker said, “Although it was not a box office success, the film…has gone on to become a beloved cult classic.”
While Fallen sounds like a run-of-the-mill serial killer movie, it’s anything but. It takes a rather serious turn involving the supernatural which alone makes it worth checking out. I won’t spoil the twist, but if you love possession films, then Fallen is the film for you.
But what are fans saying about this underrated Denzel Washington thriller? Find out below:
It seems more people than expected were forever changed by watching Fallen at a tender, impressionable age. And many agree that this film boasts one of Washington’s most underrated performances that deserves way more attention. Perhaps now that the film is streaming for free, more people will start to sing its praises.
