‘Imaginary’ Exclusive Clip: Creating The Film’s Spider Man

Imaginary Spider

Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary boasts some seriously rad special effects and practical monsters. In a world where it’s so easy to dip into CGI creatures, Wadlow and his team stood their ground to ensure this film boasted actual monsters that felt all the more real. The result was some of the year’s creepiest creations that sprint, scuttle, and lurk on screen. And in honor of the film’s physical release, we have a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of one of the film’s creepy crawlies.

In Imaginary:

When Jessica moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, finds a stuffed bear named Chauncey. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.

In our exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, hear from the special effects team about how they created the terrifying humanoid spider that terrifies Jessica throughout the film.

Watch it now:

Michael Bekemeier, who appears in the above clip, played the spider creature in one of his first acting roles. Bekemeier is primarily a stunt performer who got his start in parkour and freerunning. To speak even more of his stunt pedigree, he also holds the Guinness World Record for fastest walker in a back bend. You’ve seen his stunt work in films such as The Boogeyman, Army Of The Dead, and Do Revenge.

Imaginary also stars DeWanda Wise (Jurassic World Dominion), Tom Payne (The Walking Dead), Taegen Burns (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers), Pyper Braun (Desperation Road), Betty Buckley (Carrie), Matthew Sato (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), and Veronica Falcón (Ozark).

Imaginary is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital from Lionsgate.
