Stephen King Praises Ghastly New Streaming Horror Movie as “Scary, gross, well made”

Stephen King has discovered one of the most upsetting new horror films for arachnophobes since the dawn of cinema. The master of horror himself seems to have gotten squeamish watching the new indie spider-heavy creature feature, which has been taking the internet by storm this past week. While I will never be able to muster the courage to watch it myself, our very own Mary Beth McAndrews witnessed Infested at Fantastic Fest and was left screaming. Check out her thoughts below.

King also seems rattled by the practical spider effects displayed in the French horror hit. He took the time to let the internet know that Shudder original is a nasty piece of work, calling it “scary, gross,” and most importantly, “well made.” He also makes sure to warn wimps like me that Infested happens to feature a variety of spider sizes, including “some as big as puppies,” which sounds like a complete anxiety attack waiting to happen.

You can check out his full tweet below.

In Infested, according to Shudder:

Kaleb is about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over an inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend. Fascinated by exotic animals, he finds a venomous spider in a shop and brings it back to his apartment. It only takes a moment for the spider to escape and reproduce, turning the whole building into a dreadful web trap. The only option for Kaleb and his friends is to find a way out and survive.

The terrifying new indie stars Théo Christine, Sofia Lesaffre, Jérôme Niel, Lisa Nyarko, and Finnegan Oldfield. It was directed by Sébastien Vaniček, who has since been appointed to direct a new Evil Dead film by Ghost House, Sam Raimi, and friends. Now that’s one hell of a horror promotion.

In her glowing four-star review out of Fantastic Fest, Mary Beth McAndrews wrote, “With amazing creature effects and a story that cares about its characters, ‘Infested’ is the best spider horror film in recent memory.
