I watched a lot of Denzel Washington growing up. It reached a point where you might call it a fixation. In fairness, DVD purchases in the early aughts weren’t my decision to make—they were my parents. They loved Denzel, or at least it appeared that way given the sheer volume of titles of his they owned. I watched Man on Fire probably a dozen times (I thought the cover was very cool), though one of my favorites was no doubt Spike Lee’s Inside Man.

It was atmospheric, subversive, and smarter than I was used to. I challenged myself to understand it and the intricacies of Lee’s filmmaking style. It was more than just another heist thriller. For those who missed it, I have phenomenal news. Inside Man is presently streaming for free on Netflix.

Per Netflix: A detective matches wits with a thief who’s always one step ahead of the cops. When a loose-cannon negotiator arrives, things spin out of control.

Inside Man features as stacked a cast as any. Of course, there’s Denzel Washington in the actor’s fourth collaboration with Lee. Then there’s Clive Owen, the leader of the central heist. Jodie Foster pops up as a broker assigned to fix the ever-mounting problems, and even the late Christopher Plummer, always a powerhouse, appears as the founder of the bank being robbed.

Inside Man features everything fans of both Denzel Washington and Spike Lee could expect. Whip-smart dialogue, some action, and plenty of moral grayness as loyalties shift and good guys become bad guys and back again. There’s even a fake video game made for inclusion in the movie which, if nothing else, is pretty cool.

Fans online have been loving Inside Man. Check out some choice reactions below (though be warned about some mild spoilers):
