Is a Sequel to The Purge Getting Set to Start Production? The estimated budget for The Purge was just $3 million, and worldwide it’s raked in almost $80 million at the box office. Simply translated, that equates to a sequel, but is one already in the works? Read on for details.

Make what you will of the below tweet from Production Weekly, which states: “THE PURGE team of Jason Blum, Michael Bay and writer/director James DeMonaco reunite for Universal’s THE ZONE, filming begins mid-Dec. in LA.” You have got to admit… all of the puzzle pieces are there so who knows?

Then again it could be something completely different. We won’t know until it comes out, however, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that the California Film Commission granted tax credits to The Purge 2 back in June, around the same time they granted tax credits to 30 or so other films, including the Entourage movie. If you’ve been following non-horror film news, you’ll know that Entourage has to start filming by January to receive those credits. The same most likely goes for The Purge 2.

One night a year, all crime is legal and no one is safe in The Purge, a thought-provoking thriller from director and writer James DeMonaco (Assault on Precinct 13, The Negotiator) and producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister). In a future America, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period, The Purge, in which any and all criminal activity, including murder, is legal. On this night, one family is tested to see how far they will go to protect themselves when the vicious outside world breaks into their home.
