Sci-fi fans worried about the lack of updates for Blade Runner 2099 can relax. According to Deadline, the Prime Video series is scheduled to begin filming this April. The news comes alongside a few exciting changes for the series, including the filming location. The series was set to start production in Belfast, Ireland last summer but will now film in Prague, the Czech Republic.

Another exciting tidbit is the changing of the guard regarding the director of the first two episodes. Jeremy Podeswa (Six Feet Under and Game Of Thrones) has stepped down. Jonathan van Tulleken (Reprisal and Apple TV+’s The Changeling) will now direct the first two episodes. Deadline broke the news and explained that Podeswa had to leave due to changes to the production schedule resulting from the WGA Strike.

Silka Luisa (Shining Girls and Halo) will serve as writer, showrunner, and producer on the new limited series. Not much is known about the story aside from it will take place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049. If you missed that installment, have no fear. I am willing to share my notes below.

In the film,

“Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who’s been missing for 30 years.”

Blade Runner 2049 was directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. The 2017 film was a sequel to the 1982 Blade Runner movie directed by Ridley Scott. Fancer also co-wrote the original film alongside David Peoples. Harrison Ford returned for the second installment as well. The franchise is based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

Did these Blade Runner 2099 updates put your mind at ease? Or did they put this title on your radar? Let me know either way at @misssharai.
