Is This Really The Most Shocking Ending In A Slasher Movie?

The only thing better than a good slasher is one with a shocking twist. So, we are grateful u/hockeysmyhoe asked the Reddit horror community to share their favorite shocking endings in this beloved subgenre. As usual, the list has a lot of titles that are hard to argue with and a few cheats that we will allow. Some of the most popular titles in the thread include Urban LegendYou’re NextFriday the 13th, and Psycho. While the list assembled is pretty solid, there could only be one winner and, “It’s a scream, baby!’

It seems the Reddit community did not forget the first rule is, “Don’t fuck with the original.” Users seem to agree that Scream (1996) has the most shocking ending of any slasher. Apparently, the discovery that there were two killers is still sending fans into orbit almost 30 years later.

Scream was directed by the late Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson. The film stars David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore.

The movie spawned five sequels and a non-canon MTV series which ran for three seasons. It also reset the genre, which resulted in an era of copycat slasher movies attempting to capitalize on the excitement around the movie.

Because I am a child of the 90s, I also have an unhealthy relationship with this movie. I am obsessed with her, and I am obsessed with her daughter! So, while I am not mad that Reddit decided this was the most shocking twist ending of a slasher, I am a little surprised.

Do you think Reddit is correct about this being the most shocking ending in a slasher? Or are you also a Scream stan that is a bit surprised our favorite ran off with this crown? Let me know either way at @misssharai.
