This Popular Netflix Horror Series Has Officially Been Canceled And Fans Are Mad

Black Summer

The Black Summer fanbase finally got a definitive answer to whether the Netflix show would return for a third season. It just, sadly, was not the news they had hoped for. The popular zombie apocalypse series has been unceremoniously canceled. If you missed this action-packed title, read on for the synopsis and trailer.

In the series,

“A mother, torn from her daughter, embarks upon a harrowing journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of American refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.”

Black Summer was created by Karl Schaefer and John Hyams. The series starred Jaime King, Justin Chu Cary, Kelsey Flower, Christine Lee, and Zoe Marlett. The show was based on Z Nation by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler.

Things have looked grim for Black Summer for a moment. The second season hit Netflix on June 17, 2021. Yet there had not been any talk of a third season over the last two years. One fan Tweeted at co-creator John Hyams last spring to see if he had heard anything about a renewal. Hyams responded “Nah.”

Black Summer premiered on April 11, 2019. It ran for 2 seasons with a total of 16 episodes. All episodes are still currently available on Netflix.

I’m a little shocked that the show was canceled. It has a rabid fanbase, which is how it got onto my radar. Specifically, Dread Central’s Girl, That’s Scary, brought it to my attention when they covered the hit series’ first season.
