Penny Dreadful Feeds its Frankenstein Harry TreadawayWe’ve been keeping you up-to-date with casting news for Showtime’s 8-episode series “Penny Dreadful” as we learn about new additions, and today we found out that the show has found its Frankenstein.

According to THR, The Lone Ranger‘s Harry Treadaway has joined the cast of the cable network’s horror drama from John Logan (Gladiator) and will play Dr. Victor Frankenstein. Showtime also announced Monday that Skyfall‘s Rory Kinnear will join the cast as a mysterious character of “haunting intensity.”

The pair will join the previously announced Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Josh Hartnett, and Eva Green. Dalton will be playing African explorer “Sir Malcolm,” while Carney has snapped up Dorian Gray. Hartnett will play the role of “Ethan Chandler,” a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London. Green will play “Vanessa Ives,” a seductive and formidable beauty full of secrets and danger. Juan Antonio Bayona will helm the first two episodes of the series.

“Penny Dreadful” is created, written, and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Neal Street’s Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call the Midwife). Bayona is an acclaimed and award-winning director, best known for his work on the hugely successful 2007 horror film The Orphanage and the 2012 Oscar contender The Impossible.

“Penny Dreadful” will begin filming in October and premiere on Showtime in spring 2014. Look for lots more soon!
