Morbid: The Seven Acolytes Is A Beautifully Gory Horrorpunk Game

Probably my favorite part of Morbid: The Seven Acolytes is the unabashed inspiration from some of the best horror genres. A “challenging, isometric SoulsBorne” with Lovecraftian elements and “Chronenbergian gore,” Morbid has really lived up to its self-described “Horrorpunk” genre. This latest video by the composer and sound designer, Simo Talasranta, is the most thorough look at the game so far. And much like any Lovecraftian-Chronenbergian creature, a thorough look is one full of tentacles and undulating flesh.

In Morbid: The Seven Acolytes you play as the last of the Strivers, a warrior who has trained all their life to hunt down the Seven Acolytes. Possessed by eldritch deities, these acolytes are grotesque and corrupted creatures who spread their madness and terror throughout the world. With a mix of melee and firearm combat and customizable skills, Morbid is about as close as we’ll get to an official Bloodborne isometric game.

The more the video progresses, the more we see that Morbid: The Seven Acolytes has taken and even built upon all the best features from the SoulsBorne genre. Stamina and limited health recovery, brutal bosses, side quests and secrets, but also new features like a sanity meter. The sanity meter affects both your stats as well as the world yourself; the more insane you become, the more difficult and dangerous the monsters you’ll encounter.

Morbid: The Seven Acolytes will release sometime in 2020. it will be available on PS4, X1, Switch, and PC. For more information, check out their Discord channel by clicking here.
