There is a Denzel Washington thriller for every mood because we used to be a proper society. For example, we recently clocked this 2004 psychological political remake on (HBO) Max. Now is the perfect time to stream it because as we get closer to the 2024 Presidential Election most of us will want to leave the internet. So you should watch The Manchurian Candidate while you can still enjoy it. Check out the synopsis and trailer below.

In the film,

“Years after his squad was ambushed during the Gulf War, Major Ben Marco (Denzel Washington) finds himself having terrible nightmares. He begins to doubt that his fellow squad-mate Sergeant Raymond Shaw (Liev Schreiber), now a vice-presidential candidate, is the hero he remembers him being. As Marco’s doubts deepen, Shaw’s political power grows, and, when Marco finds a mysterious implant embedded in his back, the memory of what really happened begins to return.”

The Manchurian Candidate was directed by Jonathan Demme. The screenplay was written by Daniel Pyne and Dean Georgaris. It is based on the 1959 Richard Condon novel and the 1962 George Axelrod film of the same name. This adaptation stars Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Liev Schreiber, Kimberly Elise, and newly minted Oscar nominee Jeffrey Wright.

This star-studded affair is one of the movies that has been on my radar forever. So, I am excited to head over to Max, where I can reclaim my seat in the Denzel Washington fan club. Have you already watched this version? If so, how does it hold up against the original? Tell me at @misssharai.
