Horror fiends can rest assured that The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be breaking into theaters on May 17, 2024. This first installment of this highly-anticipated trilogy finally got a release date this week. We were also given a new teaser via Madelaine Petsch’s Instagram account.

Check it out here:

Talk about terrifying. This announcement inspired us to gather everything we know about this beloved franchise’s newest installment. We also got this creepy Polaroid teaser image of our three titular strangers:

In the new film,

A young couple drive cross-country toward a new beginning; unfortunately they have no choice but to stop in a secluded Airbnb in Oregon—and endure a night of terror against three masked strangers.

The Strangers: Chapter 1 was directed by horror legend Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream MasterThe Long Kiss Goodnight). The script was written by Alan R. Cohen (The Freak BrothersDue Date) and Alan Freedland (Due Date). The movie will kick off a trilogy of films existing in the same universe as Bryan Bertino’s The Strangers.

Madelaine Petsch (Polaroid, Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (InitiationCruel Summer), Rachel Shenton (For Her SinsA Confession), Gabriel Basso (The Night AgentHillbilly Elegy), and Ema Horvath (The Mortuary Collection, What Lies Below).

Watch an official clip from the film:

The original 2008 film was written and directed by Bryan Bertino (The Dark And The WickedThe Monster). It starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a young couple being terrorized by three masked assailants while staying in an isolated vacation home. It spawned 2018’s sequel, The Strangers: Prey at Night, which saw a new family get hunted in a mobile home park. Bertino co-wrote the script with Ben Ketai, but the second installment was directed by Johannes Roberts.

The Strangers is one of my favorite movies, and I’m not sure I’ll ever feel the same sense of terror again. However, I am looking forward to seeing what The Strangers: Chapter 1 brings to the table. Let me know if you plan to catch it in theaters at @misssharai.
