‘Welcome to Derry’ Is Delayed At HBO Until 2025

Stephen King fans got some sad but inevitable news today. Deadline announced that HBO is officially pushing back some of their 2024 premiere dates due to the ongoing labor disputes that forced WGA and SAG to strike this year. One of the titles postponed is the highly anticipated Welcome To Derry series.
Welcome To Derry is the long-awaited prequel to It (2017) and It Chapter Two (2019). The series was scheduled to premiere around Halloween 2024. However, it is now one of the titles most likely getting pushed to 2025.

The It remakes saw a more violent Pennywise, because he wasn’t restricted to early 90s broadcast standards, terrorizing The Loser’s club in a more modern setting. The films starred Bill Skarsgård, Jaeden Martell, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, and Sophia Lillis. Both parts were directed by Andy Muschietti.
The series was developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. It is based on It by Stephen King but would expand on the Muschiettis version of the property. The series will star Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, Taylour Paige, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Madeleine Stowe.

While the WGA strike has ended and writers can return to work, SAG is still trying to get a fair deal from execs, including those at Warner Bros/HBO. This means actors cannot return to work at this time, even if scripts are somehow finished.
While this news is expected and will not be the last of the wave of titles postponed, it’s still sad. Hopefully, AMPTP will return to the table and finally do the right thing soon.
