Hulu Horror: ‘House of Usher’ Director Mike Flanagan Recommends This “Fantastic” Streaming Chiller

Something In The Dirt

Master of Modern Horror, Mike Flanagan has been on a winning streak since his micro budget indie feature, Absentia bowed in 2011. And he’s not showing any signs of stopping. His latest televised offering, The Fall of the House of Usher recently debuted on Netflix and has since been met with acclaim from both viewers and critics.

But Mike Flanagan doesn’t just create quality content. He is also an avid consumer of films and television. So today, we have a recommendation for you from the prolific creator.

A while back, Flanagan took to Twitter to sing the praises of a film from dynamic duo, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. The director calls their 2022 sci-fi horror hybrid, Something in the Dirt “fantastic” and goes on to say, “it might be my favorite of their films.”

That’s high praise, considering that the filmmaking pair have established quite the reputation for consistently churning out content that is both cerebral and thought-provoking.

Flanagan isn’t the only fan of Something in the Dirt, however. The picture has been ‘certified fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes and currently holds an impressive 90% on the aggregate film review site. Additionally, the flick has a respectable critical score of 76/100 on Metacritic.

Benson and Moorhead first made waves with their celebrated indie feature, Resolution. And they have continued to win acclaim with subsequent collaborations like the Lovecraft-esque Spring and their paranormal chiller, The Endless.

Something in the Dirt synopsis per Google Movies: When neighbors John and Levi witness shocking supernatural events in their Los Angeles apartment building, they realize documenting the paranormal could inject some much-needed fame and fortune into their humdrum lives.

If you’re interested in scoping Something in the Dirt, you are in luck. The film is streaming via Hulu as of the publication of this post!
