A Scottish village called Skelmorlie has been in the news following a Pennywise sighting. On Friday, October 13th, the sleepy town had a visit from a man dressed as the killer clown from the It franchise (pictured below). Unlike his onscreen counterpart, this Pennywise was surprisingly well-behaved, leaving a series of riddles for villagers to solve, rather than a trail of carnage in his wake.

A series of clues led locals on a scavenger hunt that concluded in a community garden. The final piece of the puzzle was a black box with a mirror inside. The word ‘clown’ was scrawled across the mirror.

Reports previously surfaced suggesting that locals were terrified by the presence of Pennywise. But that does not seem to be entirely accurate. The clown first appeared in the small town several years ago, and it seems a lot of the villagers quite enjoy his presence. To some, he has even become something of a local hero.

Isy Agnew, one of the townspeople who successfully solved the puzzle left by the clown, had nothing but praise for the man in the mask, telling Sky News, “There is nothing sinister or creepy – just a way to bring the community together. This year is no different. As far as I’m concerned, personally, I love it. My grandchildren love it too. They’re thrilled granny has had a visit from Pennywise.”

If you ask me, there’s something rather charming about all of this. The idea that someone is using their love of the horror genre to bring joy to their community is special. Even more exciting is the idea that people are having so much fun with it.
