‘Scream 7’ Director Swap: ‘Paranormal Activity’ Alumni Now Takes On Ghostface

Scream 6

It’s official. Scream 7 is happening and with a different director this time around. Radio Silence (Ready Or Not and Southbound) took the mantle from the late Wes Craven with Scream (2022). They continued carrying the torch with this year’s Scream VI, which broke franchise records.

Now they are stepping back because of their new unnamed Universal Monster movie starring Melissa Barrera. Melissa’s the lead of the new Scream installments, so she would also have the same scheduling conflicts. Which makes that seem like a weird reason to vacate. However, I am just a simple girl on the internet, so what do I know?

As a longtime fan of the franchise, and an aspiring Wes Craven scholar (a term I just coined), I was surprised by how much the new movies felt like they belonged in the world built by Craven and Kevin Williamson. I knew Radio Silence would show me a good time. However, I didn’t expect to live my best life the way I have with these two films. I am still hoping to see the team give us a seventh installment to close out this requel arc.

Now The Hollywood Reporter says that Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day and Freaky) is officially taking over. Landon is also known for writing and directing some of Paranormal Activity films. So, this would not be his first time stepping into a franchise.
