The Top 10 Thrillers of the 21st Century, According to TikTok [Video]
Like all the other millennials, I lose a lot of hours on TikTok. We here at Dread are also in our thriller era because it’s summer and we want that intrigue. So, super popular TikToker Cinema.Joe caught our attention with a list of the top 10 thrillers of the 21st century. Because we’ve seen almost all of them, we can vouch that Joe knows his stuff.
Black Swan (2010)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A ballerina is pushed to the breaking point and begins to lose her grip on reality. This movie allowed Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis to fight for the title of chaos queen. I’m not mad that it’s on this list because ballerina-focused psychological horror movies are a genre we need to give more respect to.
Shutter Island (2010)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
Two US marshals are sent to a remote island’s asylum to investigate a missing patient. Many people love this movie, so I’m not surprised it’s on this TikTok list.
I Saw The Devil (2010)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A secret agent puts a serial killer through the wringer. Kim Jee-woon is responsible for A Tale Of Two Sisters, so when I saw he directed this one, I knew I was about to become a stan account for this film.

Momento (2000)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A man with short-term memory loss goes after his wife’s murderer. Momento was a moment when it came out. It’s based on the short story Memento Mori written by Jonathan Nolan. Which is probably why it was so easy to get his brother Christopher Nolan to direct it.
Mulholland Drive (2001)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A car wreck leaves a woman with amnesia so she sets out to find answers across Los Angeles. I’ve heard a ton of good things about this one and this TikTok list has reminded me that I still need to hit play.
Prisoners (2013)
Where You Can Watch: Netflix
A man takes matters into his own hands when his daughter is abducted, and the police are unhelpful. This two-hour and thirty-three-minute runtime is daunting, but this cast makes me feel like it’s worth it.
No Country For Old Men (2007)
Where You Can Watch: Prime Video, Pluto TV, and The Roku Channel
Chaos ensues when a hunter finds two million dollars and the results of a drug deal that went south. Because the Coen brothers gave us Fargo and Raising Arizona we all knew this would be a wild time. However, no one could’ve predicted the places this movie would go.

Memories Of Murder (2003)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
Two detectives try to catch a serial rapist who murders his victims. Korean thrillers are always the cure and this one is directed by Bong Joon-ho (Parasite, Snowpiercer, The Host). So, if the sexual assault content warning isn’t a barrier, this is probably going to be one of the best movies on the list.
Zodiac (2007)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A cartoonist becomes obsessed with tracking down the Zodiac Killer who is in the middle of a killing spree. This unsettling film gets under the skin and stays with you for a few days.
Oldboy (2003)
Where You Can Watch: N/A
A man wakes up in a prison where he is drugged for 15 years and only given a television for company. This Korean thriller was a moment, and I see how it’s #1 on this list.
