This 2018 Bradley Cooper crime thriller just stole the #6 spot in the Netflix charts. While The Mule might’ve flown under most of our radars upon its initial release, it seems to be having a moment this summer.

Rotten Tomatoes Synopsis

Broke, alone and facing foreclosure on his business, 90-year-old horticulturist Earl Stone takes a job as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. His immediate success leads to easy money and a larger shipment that soon draws the attention of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates. When Earl’s past mistakes start to weigh heavily on his conscience, he must decide whether to right those wrongs before law enforcement and cartel thugs catch up to him.

The Mule was directed by Clint Eastwood. It was written by Nick Schenk. The story was adapted from The New York Times article “The Sinaloa Cartel’s 90-Year-Old Drug Mule” by Sam Dolnick. The movie stars Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest, Alison Eastwood, Taissa Farmiga, and Ignacio Serricchio.

The film recently found its way to Netflix and immediately cracked its top 10 charts, which is probably partially due to this all-star case. Because it is inspired by real events it might also be standing out among the true crime crowd.
