‘Bad Girl Boogey’ Trailer: The Latest From Alice Maio Mackay Is Slashing Its Way Into Theaters

Bad Girl Boogey

We’ve talked a lot about trans director Alice Maio Mackay and her impressive filmography at just 18 years of age. With one film officially streaming on Shudder (her take on vampires called So Vam) and another on the festival circuit (her body horror film T Blockers), Mackay stays booked and busy with horror projects. Now, Dark Star Pictures is releasing her second feature Bad Girl Boogey onto the world. This time, Mackay is crafting her take on the slasher genre, including a haunted mask and queer found family.

Read the full synopsis:

Bad Girl Boogey follows Angel whose mother was brutally murdered one Halloween night, when blood was shed by a deranged killer wearing a parasitic mask cursed with black magic and bigotry. Sixteen years later, when Angel’s best friend is slaughtered by a killer with the same mask, they must overcome their personal struggles, fight their fear, and find the masked killer before he, or it, slaughters everyone they hold dear.

Check out the trailer for Mackay’s unabashedly queer slasher now:

Mackay directed and produced the film. She also co-wrote the script with frequent collaborator Ben Pahl Robinson.

Lisa Fanto, Iris Mcerlean, Chris Asimos, Toshiro Glenn, Lewi Dawson, and Kate Bonney star in the film. Horror icon Bill Mosley also makes a special voiceover cameo.

Bad Girl Boogey comes to digital on July 4, 2023. It will also have a limited theatrical run starting on July 7, 2023 before coming to DVD on July 11, 2023.
