James Wan Is Working On His Dream Lovecraft Movie: “I have been secretly cooking away”

We all love a James Wan and Patrick Wilson collaboration. This is a good thing because these two have been working together for over a decade. This unholy union has gifted two horrific franchises between Insidious and The Conjuring.

While doing press for the upcoming Insidious: The Red Door, Wan, and Wilson did AMA over Reddit. A lot of juicy bits of information came out of it. For instance, Patrick has now put James in charge of the wedding proposals he receives online.

Also, James told us that one of his movies he’s the proudest of is The Conjuring 2. Wan elaborated, “Because I felt that I’d expanded on the characters I love, and was able to create suspenseful scare scenes and a unique/terrifying villain, the Demon Nun.”

Another question that made us lean forward was when Wan was asked about his dream project. According to Bloody Disgusting, the filmmaker replied, “My dream project, that I have been secretly cooking away on the down low for the last 5 years, is The Call of Cthulhu.”

For the uninitiated, The Call of Cthulhu is a short story written by H.P. Lovecraft. The narrative reads as the notes of Francis Thurston, who is investigating a legendary creature. You can read the story at The H.P. Lovecraft Archive.

We would’ve been happy knowing the dream project, but we basically flew into orbit when Wan said he’s already been working toward it.

Are you as excited as we are to see James Wan take on an H.P. Lovecraft story? Then let us nerd out immediately at @misssharai.
