‘Nope’ Was The #1 Horror Movie on Prime Video Last Month

Nope Prime Video

Jordan Peele’s Nope, his third feature released, has taken the streaming world by storm, ranking as the number one horror movie on Prime Video for the month of April. Dread Central is a huge fan of Peele’s terrifying sci-fi, horror hybrid, with our own Mary Beth McAndrews calling it an “out-of-this-world spectacle.” I even ranked it in my Top 10 for the year. In fact, it might be my favorite thing Jordan Peele has ever done, no small feat for the creative behind both Get Out and Us.

In Nope, “The residents of a lonely gulch in inland California bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.” Check out the trailer below:

Nope sees Jordan Peele at his most restrained, letting the innate spectacle of his feature speak for itself. He’s aided by an exceptionally talented cast, including both Keke Palmer and Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out). Nope grossed an exceptional $171.2 million when released last summer, proving that Jordan Peele had no intentions of slowing down. While it’s still too soon to say (just ask Twitter), at this rate, Peele is cementing himself as a modern master of the genre. He’s three for three, though he’s never comfortable enough to simply iterate on himself. Every project he touches yields something new and exciting. It’s an absolute gift to horror fans. Check out what some of them had to say below:

After premiering in March, Nope has continued to dominate the charts, maintaining its supremacy throughout the entire month of April. And that’s a good thing. For as much as horror fans complain that there are no new ideas, Nope tried something different and succeeded wildly. Even if it’s not for you, there’s no discounting Peele’s singular vision and penchant for risk-taking. In a theatrical ecosystem that’s growing increasingly stale, that’s a rare thing indeed. In fact, it might be the most spectacular thing of all.

What do you think? Have you already caught Nope on Prime Video? Where does it rank among Peele’s filmography for you? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins. Oh, and don’t look up.
