A gripping new international thriller hit Netflix last week and immediately became a global phenomenon as it scaled the charts. According to FlixPatrol, our genre king this week is the Turkish thriller Chokehold.

In the film, a couple from Istanbul settles in a village in the Aegean region to start a new and peaceful life. However, they quickly realize that they have many enemies in this new town.

Chokehold was directed by Onur Saylak and written by Hakan Gunday. It stars Kivanç Tatlitug, Funda Eryigit, and Gürgen Öz.  The original title is Boga Boga; the film hit Netflix on April 21st and has been all the rage across the globe ever since.

Now fans all over the world are going gaga for Kivanç Tatlitug’s portrayal of a very unlikable protagonist. Many viewers are also shaken by how dark this film gets, which means we are interested. Still, others are rejoicing that a Turkish thriller is killing it on the global charts. And so are we.

I know I’m late to the Kivanç Tatlitug bandwagon, but now that I’m here, I get it. His fanbase has taste, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of his movies.

I love hot men playing unlikable characters that I cannot root for with a clear conscience. There’s a lot to unpack there, but I’m going to watch this movie first and save that for a later day.
