Dread Central Haunts Linda Vista for Insidious Chapter 2Last night Dread Central was invited to the infamous Linda Vista Hospital in Los Angeles for a special haunted tour as well as to be amongst the first to view the highly anticipated trailer for Insidious Chapter 2.

Before the trailer was screened and director James Wan took to the Internet stage to answer some fan questions, we had the opportunity to explore the reportedly haunted hospital on a tour led by the Boyle Heights Paranormal Project, an organization that specializes in extensive investigations of Linda Vista as well as detailed tours for the brave souls out there who dare to enter the facility.

For those not familiar with Linda Vista, it’s an abandoned hospital that has been the shooting location of many horror films, most notably being one of the boiler room sets used in the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, and the upcoming Insidious Chapter 2.

But enough with the history lesson; let’s do some ghost hunting!

First up in the tour was the examination room, which looks like a creepy dentist’s office. While in the room, we were informed that this is the location where the most people died in the hospital, which didn’t necessarily set an easy mood amongst our group.

Oh great. Moving on.

Next we visited what we thought was a regular hospital room. I noticed upon entering that there isn’t a sink, toilet or anything, which seems weird- we soon find out it’s an isolation room. The room itself has a lot of satanic writing on the wall, left there by serial killer Richard Ramirez decades ago. A lot of the graffiti was added for different films over the years, but the base art is that of Ramirez’s. A few people in my tour group didn’t even go in this room (suckers).

This photo is from the records room. When the hospital was abandoned in 1991, everything was left as it was, which means old medical equipment still litters the hallways (thankfully all the syringes and other medical waste has since been cleaned up). However, when shooting Insidious Chapter 2, production needed a records room for a scene, and so they then set about the task of collecting every old file left around the hospital to construct this room, which now houses all the facility’s files. Still creepy though.

Finally, we had the chance to look around the boiler room, which horror fans will recognize as the very same one that belonged to one Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare series. The place did not have good vibes and every sound echoed in the cavernous room, multiplying the creep factor exponentially. Our tour guide goes on to tell us how in the Twenties and Thirties the laws were different so when a John/Jane Doe died in Linda Vista, they were thrown into the oven of the boiler with the trash.

At this point I think to myself, “Is it built on top of a cemetery too?” And then things get even better- we’re told that amongst other debris remaining, there is still human ash in the bin on the opposite side of the oven.

After we wrapped up in the boiler room, our group headed back upstairs for the Insidious Chapter 2 trailer premiere, which you can see below along with some new stills from the movie. And for those of you in the Los Angeles area who have the stones for it, you can find more information about the Linda Vista Hospital and the Boyle Heights Paranormal Project and their tours on Facebook.
