Read the full synopsis below:

A paranoid man embarks on an epic odyssey to get home to his mother in this bold and ingeniously depraved new film from writer/director Ari Aster.

Beau Is Afraid is based on a short film Aster directed in 2011 starring the late Billy Mayo. The experimental short shows a man unable to visit his mother because a possum monster takes his keys. Let’s hope Aster keeps the possum monster in the full-length feature.

Now watch the official trailer:

Joaquin Phoenix, Nathan Lane, Amy Ryan, Stephen Mckinley Henderson, Hayler Squires, Denis Ménochet, Kylie Rogers, Armen Nahapetian, star in the film with Parker Posey, and Patti LuPone.
