Horror Director Mike Flanagan Calls This Scary New Release “Epic” and “truly haunting”

It’s time to unearth a new release, given the recent recommendation from The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan. The director and writer recently took to Twitter where he shared his opinion on the cosmic terror title Something In The Dirt by filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. See what the Doctor Sleep director has to say about the recently released spookshow below.

Benson and Moorhead are known for crafting a unique style of fear. Their previous efforts Resolution and The Endless, and Synchronic are mind-melting investigations of cosmic horror grounded in relatable, emotional nuance. The pairs films are often beautiful while deeply rattling.

Marvel even caught wind of their abilities and hired the team to create the series Moon Knight, marking a fresh era for the storytellers. Now the boys are back with Something In The Dirt, and they’re shoveling up their scary and disturbing roots.

In the film, two new neighbors witness what seems to be a supernatural event in one of their apartments. At first terrified, they realize that documenting this phenomenon could provide them with the lives they’ve always dreamed of.

Mike Flanagan isn’t alone in his love of the new film. In her review out of Sundance, Dread Central’s editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews had this to say:

“Something In The Dirt has an immaculate vibe, a perfect blend of mind-boggling cosmic horror and intimate character portraits. It may not be straightforward, but that’s the beauty of it… This is Benson and Moorhead at their best, creating a genre film filled with tenderness and intimacy.”

Here’s what Hush director Mike Flanagan has to say about Something In The Dirt:

Something In The Dirt comes to theaters on November 4, 2022.
