‘Insidious 5’: Patrick Wilson Returns to the Further Summer 2023

Insidious Patrick Wilson

Once more into the Further we go, as Sony Pictures has finally announced their triumphant return to the Insidious franchise. The fifth installment will be directed by none other than horror daddy and franchise star Patrick Wilson himself. While we already knew all that, we now finally have a release date: July 7, 2023.

The new Insidious film “will pick up with the Lamberts ten years after the last movie, as Dalton begins college.” So this film is shifting the focus back onto the Lambert family, who were the main characters in the first two Insidious movies. It’ll be interesting to see if Wilson incorporates anything from the third and fourth films, or merely sticks to the Lamberts’ story. So far, Wilson and Ty Simpkins, who plays Dalton, are confirmed to return. Fingers crossed for Rose Byrne.

Wilson spoke with GameSpot in 2020 about the film and said:

“I just latched on to watching Dalton go to college and what does that do, watching a young man go to college and all the new experiences and feeling like an outsider and trying to fit in? And he’s got this ability that he doesn’t even know he has of being an astral projector–being a traveler. Are we still hypnotized? Is there still that trend? What does that do to your life? What does that do to your marriage? And then what does that do from a father and son relationship?

The first Insidious film, released in 2010, marked James Wan’s glorious return to horror. And, especially with such a small-budget film, Wan went on to create one of the most successful horror movies of all time. Then he did it again with The Conjuring.

We can’t wait to see what hell Wilson creates in his vision of the Further. Keep checking back to Dread Central for all your Insidious updates.
