Stephen King Reacts to Disturbing New Horror Film ‘The Innocents’

The Innocents

Eskil Vogt’s new film The Innocents is a disturbing look into the dark lives of children. It follows the young Ida, who’s just moved into a new apartment complex. As she struggles to make friends and help care for her sister, Ida meets Ben. He has special abilities which he shows off proudly. But as they get to know each other and their friend group expands, the stakes grow higher as they all push the definitions of good and evil.

In our review of the film, Dread Central’s editor-in-chief Mary Beth McAndrews wrote:

Eskil Vogt strikes a tense and nauseating atmosphere that makes ‘The Innocents’ an unforgettable experience.

Horror master Stephen King saw the film and had this to say:

“Sinister and completely arecently bsorbing . . . I doubt I’ll see another film so successful on all levels this year.”

Previously, King praised Ti West’s latest film X, calling it “an extremely good horror movie.” You know when you get the King seal of approval, you’ve made it.

Before The Innocents, Vogt wrote the Academy Award-nominated film The Worst Person In The World, as well as Thelma. He’s versatile in his work, flowing between genres with ease. Whether it’s a romantic drama or horror film, Vogt imbues each with heart-aching humanity. It seems that Stephen King realized that, too.

The Innocents is available to watch now on digital and On Demand.
