The 10 Best Hidden Horror Gems Streaming On Netflix, April 2022
For better or worse, it can feel like there are countless horror titles to choose from on Netflix these days. While the first few pages of selections are stacked with the usual classics, what lays beyond can feel like a bit of a crapshoot. Well, not today Satan. If you’re looking to investigate some Netflix horror selects that you maybe haven’t seen a million times, but that are still watchable, then we’ve got you covered. Today we’re counting down the ten best modern under-appreciated horror gems floating through the world’s largest streamer.
One of the films currently available to watch which needs more love has got to be the 2018 release Hell Fest. This old school American slasher hails from filmmaker Gregory Plotkin and concerns a group of Halloween-night thrill-seekers who visit a very sketchy travelling spook house. Hell Fest is nasty, fun, and won’t bore you for a minute. Generally, I’d suggest watching this sucker closer to Halloween, but since we’re halfway there, why not indulge? Scream: The Series alums Tony Todd and Bex Taylor-Klaus both show up in this one.
Here are the top 10 under-seen modern horror films streaming on Netflix:
- Before I Wake
- Hell Fest
- The Rental
- Synchronic
- The Platform
- The Clovehitch Killer
- His House
- Dark Skies
- The Old Ways
- Berlin Syndrome
Another title from the above list requiring a shout out is Mike Flanagan’s lost tragic-horror show Before I Wake. This hidden gem was originally titled Somnia before getting officially lost in the streaming shuffle. Made before Flanagan became the undisputed King of Netflix Horror, Before I Wake is a beautiful and honestly scary family horror story starring Thomas Jane, Jacob Tremblay and Kate Bosworth. It’s definitely worth your time if you have yet to check this one out.
